- Warning, NOT compatible with Server 2008 R2, October 28, 2009

"I have been using this product with Win Server 2008 for months but after an upgrade to R2 I was shocked to discover that it no longer works. The new Windows 7 driver won't install either, says it's an unsupported operating system and worse yet, DisplayLink, the maker of the video driver, says they have no plans to support Windows Server OSes."

"I've used the Toshiba with two VERY different laptops, a Sony Vaio with the despicable VISTA OS and then an HP business laptop with XP Pro. My experience with the Dynadock has been excellent; both times installation was quick and painless and the dock was fully functional right out of the gate. My one 'quibble' is that my external monitors had better image reproduction if I re-loaded the drivers supplied by the monitor manufacturer after installing the Dynadock software. Last, to respond to a comment in another review, I knew before I bought it that the Dynadock wouldn't provide power to my laptop, and knew it for two reasons: (1) I actually read the information and specs before I bought it; and (2) port replicators provide power to laptops but docking stations don't! All in all I LOVE my Dynadock so much that I'm buying a second one for my house"
- Great, but can we add a built-in KVM?, October 07, 2009

"Great little dock for swapping peripherals between computers. One thing that would make this a lot better is if it had a built-in "KVM" and 2 or more USB connections that allowed you to switch between 2 computers with a button push or (even better) a hot-key. That would make this indisposable. Right now.. having difficulty figuring out how to work in a KVM with this toy."

"I have a hp laptop with a Nvida 8400m with a dell 3005 monitor. I had the hardest time getting the dynadock video working. My wifes averatec worked no problem. I tried reinstalling Toshiba drivers and adjusting settings, no good. Finally I went into the Nvida setting and notice no external detected. Plugged the external monitor directly into the laptop, drivers updated adjusted Nvida setting and now I have video on my external monitor and am very happy."

"Dynadock is a great solution when a compatible docking station is not available. Video, sound, ethernet and other USBs are possible through a single USB connection without noticeable degradation. Previously the 2nd monitor had problems to be recognized at startup and a manual sync was required. This seems fixed on latest video driver update."

"I bought this docking station for my Dell XPS1330 laptop. 80% of the time it works ok, but about once or twice a week, the monitor freezes up altogether. Most of the time a reboot fixes it, but several times I have had to completely remove and reinstall the drivers. I've updated drivers to the latest I can find, but the problem still exists. My only other complaint is the slowness of the USB link. Often the keyboard will miss letters when typing (and I'm not a fast typer), and the video is jerky at best. This may just be a limitation of video over USB, I don't know - I've not used any other USB docking stations to be able to compare. I don't know what similar products are out there, but to do this again, I'd think twice before purchasing this one..."

"Why get rid of the Replicator 3? That was what I used with my previous Toshiba laptop, but I could not run the new Portege on it, so got the Dynadock. All I got were problems. Despite a lot of effort I cannot get full screen on my 19" Dell monitor. I cannot view skype video on it either. I need to plug my computer into the mains seperately, (another plug into the already crowded multiplug) and the software that comes with the dynadock is extremely restrictive. If I shut my laptop it turns off, wheras the old repolicator kept it on. Not much to recomend it really! Very disapointed. Not a good Toshibna product."

"Contrary to the other reviewers, I had no trouble installing this device. Even my wife noticed the difference in the quality of sound as opposed to my $500 Toshiba laptop it is connected to. I do have a 22" monitor connected to this device via the VGA (the monitor's DVI is connected to a server). The system recognized the monitor (called it monitor #3 because nothing was connected to the VGA on the laptop itself) with not problem and set the resolution to the proper 1680 x 1050. The image is very clear. The only complaint is that with a monitor of this resolution, there is some jerkyness when draging a window around on that monitor that I did not see when that monitor was connected to the VGA port on the laptop itself. Most likely pushing the limits of USB 2.0 when trying to push that many bits through the pipe. Also connected a wireless keyboard and mouse USB receiver to the device and a 1 TB external USB disk and a wired 100MB network connection. All are functioning properly. I think it is work the investment considering it is only one USB cable (and one power cable) that I need to disconnect when taking the laptop somewhere as opposed to the 3 USB, one network, and one VGA cables that I had to disconnect before."

"Great idea, but drivers/install a joke! Followed install guide to the letter. Dynadock utility and video drivers installed, but audio drivers did not - faulty isntall CD. Downloaded latest versions from website. Uninstalled previous version as per instructions and installed latest software. Dynadock installed, video installed, audio did not. Uninstalled again and repeated. Utility works, video installed (though I dont have a second monitor so cant tell if it works or not. Audio installed BUT NEVER docks so that the external speakers are the default ones, so I have to manually set them everytime I boot. The mic is set to the external socket - even though I am using the laptops built in one - so have to change that everytime as well. There seems to be no way to save my settings. When laptop goes into standby/sleep or hibernation, the dynadock treats it as if its been unplugged without being ejected, so complains - lots of nag screens and then various peripherals don't work. There is no useful help or advice from the Toshiba website that I can find. All in all I have wasted about 20 hours trying to fix this issue. I am now just about to rebox the dynadock and send it back for a refund as it is "not fit for purpose""

"Hooked up my new Dynadock to my Toshiba laptop yesterday. My main goal in buying it was to enable my large dvi monitor, which was not working directly cabled via the HDMI cable with dvi adapter. The monitor situation took me an hour to finally work out, because the Dynadock seems to want to extend desktops by default. I only wanted the external monitor to work and that took some experimenting. Everything else, sound, wireless keyboard, network, printers, etc. worked fine with no hitches whatever."

"I've been using the Dynadock U for about a month or so now, and overall I think it's an excellent product. Easy to connect, looks great, and easy to keep out of the way (ie. out-of-sight, out-of-mind). My favorite feature (and one of the main reasons why I bought this) was the S/PDIF-out which works like a charm. Simply by connecting a single USB cable, I have high-speed networking, Dolby Digital, and limitless peripherals going at the same time. I gave the performance a 4 because I couldn't get it to display full 1080p on my Sony Bravia via DVI-HDMI. This could be a result of my TV, but again it would be better to cut the DVI and go straight for HDMI-out on this unit. Installation is a breeze; after a few mandatory restarts, everything becomes automatic and simple. After turning off my computer, the Dynadock goes into sleep mode after some time passes thereby saving energy. Currently I'm using the Dynadock on Windows Vista x86 without fail, however the included drivers are not fully compatible with Windows 7 RC1 (ie. no digital audio, and video drivers are wonky). I hope Toshiba is quick to release some Windows 7 drivers!"

"I bought the dock so that I could run an external monitor and peripherals through one connection to the my Toshiba Satellite A305-S6916, and so I could close the laptop and stow it out of the way, under the external monitor. All peripherals worked except the Monitor - the driver installation program indicated that "display link core" and "video dock" could not install on my operating system (Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit). That necessitated running my external monitor directly from my laptop - adding one more connection directly to the laptop. Moreover, it was necessary to keep the Toshiba Satellite A305-S6916 laptop open in order to use the docking station, resulting in two monitors taking space on my desk and with no way to shut the laptop so I could slide it under the monitor. In other laptop/docking stations I've had, I've been able to close the laptop while keeping it operating."

"I've always had Compaq laptops and they have all had proprietary docking solutions. I recently purchased a Dell XPS1330 that has no docking capability. I first tried Tritton - all kinds of problems. So for Xmas the wife got me the Dynadock. I've got my laptop in dual boot mode for XP Pro (SP3) and Vista Home Premium (SP1). The dock works extremely well with both OS's. Sure there is some video lag at times, but for a UNIVERSAL solution, I've got to say this is working out very well."

"Bought this product to link my laptop to my Panasonic Plasma TV/sound system. I wanted a minimum of wires out of the laptop to be seen and to wear out due to regular removal. Using this product, only the power cord (I put an on/off switch on the power cord before the transformer) and one USB wire is seen on the TV stand off the laptop. My low end laptop puts up a very good picture on the TV screen and the music/sound out of it is in 5.1 and sounds terrific (using the optical connector). While I do not use this for busines (I have desktop for that) I use it for iTunes, internet music, pictures and anything else of entertainment value I can come up with. Oh, be sure to get a wireless keyboard/mouse for the coffee table."

"On the fence so far. Unfortunately I cannot undock as smoothly as I would like to as it fails to shut down a TV/FM Tuner USB device I have. It tells me that an app is using it when it certainly does not appear so... not only are no apps running but, i have also shut down manually any services that appear to be related to it. Since i cannot complete the undock feature, as it is only partially complete when it gets to the TV/Tuner, it also does not reverse and get me back to fully docked 'operational'. I have yet to spend any significant time looking for a solution. Not giving up yet, and hope I am able to find a work around."

"I have this product for a month now, sadly i have 2 major issues with it. Whenever i connect through my PPPoE connection through the Dynadock it works great for 10 minutes and then it loses connectivity, i can not open anything, downloads stop ...and after 10-15 seconds it resumes. If i plug the Ethernet cable directly in the laptop i don`t have this kind of problems. It is clearly a problem with the software or the hardware of the Dynadock and the PPPoE connection.Another problem i have is that when my computer is connected to the Dynadock although i have 4 GB of RAM and a Dual Core Processor it starts lagging in games or other applications. As soon as i disconnect the cable, it works great. The idea of the product is a great one but sadly it needs some tweaking."

"I've been using the Dynadock for approximately 2 weeks and I have to say it is very nice to have. If you want the freedom of having a laptop to travel with but having the ability to instantly connect to peripherals such as monitors, keyboard and a mouse this is the item for you. The only down fall I've seen so far is not being able to wake the lap top from an external keyboard when it sleeps."

"I have been using this Docking station for sume time now and have had no problems. I have a third monitor attached, a ethernet cable to my network, a Logitech wireless Keybord and Mouse, two other hubs, a floppy/cardreader, a 4gb readyboost thumb drive, an external USB DVD Rewrtier and 9, 2.5"USB hard drives. I can hook up my camera for downloads, other thumb drives into the USB hubs or my Logitech Harmony universal remote for programming and all without a problem. I love the my Dynadock, you will too."
